Another one bites the dust

So I went cross country skiing last weekend and lost my phone. This is the email I sent my parents to explain the cell phone loss:

I regret to inform you that I have killed another cell phone. I'm sorry, I will drive down to the verizon store in Brunswick and replace it, just tell me the details. At least I managed to kill this one in style. For Valentine's Day I was leading an Outing Club Trip that was a skate ski lesson. Now you may be wondering, "Does Kate know how to skate ski?" The answer to that question is no; I was really a leader in name only, although I did fill out the food and gear forms for the trip, and made sure we got Valentine's Day candy. My other two snack requests were soundly denied. I guess you don't really need 3 different snacks for a three hour trip. If you are wondering, skate skiing a type of cross country skiing. On classic cross country skis you drag the ski forwards with you toe and glide, whereas on skate cross country skis your skis make a V and you alternate pushing on the inside edge of the ski (kind of like ice skating). Since cutting edge cross country ski technology is not really necessary for outing club trips, all of the cross country ski gear is from the late 80's- early 90's and have the neon colors to prove it. The boots I was wearing were neon yellow and blue with bright purple ankles straps; they were awesome. In honor of our trip being on Valentine's Day and to match these flourescent boots, my friend Julie and I decided to make the trip a spandextravaganza and wear the brightest color spandex we could find. Thankfully for me, Julie's parents owned a clothing companie in the 80s that specialized in ridiculously bright spandex. She was wearing a brown velour body suit with a powder blue undershirt and I was wearing a red spandex top with black leggings as a base, over which I wore these capri length spandex that were turquoise on the front side of my left leg and the back side of my right leg, and on the front side of my right leg and back of my left they were black with a pattern of mulit-color boxes. Don't worry, I will send pictures. I was also wearing pink wool knee socks and the fabulous neon 80s ski boots. It was great. So I was learning how to skate ski, and decided since I was wearing a lot of spandex I should probably keep the falling to a minium, since that would be cold. But inevitably I did fall, in the middle of a big field, and in spectacular fashion. After searching all of my bags and the BOC van, I have come to the conclusion that while I was flailing backwards, looking up at the sky and parallel to the ground, my cell phone must have slipped out of my pocket. I was too focused on untangling my legs and getting myself out of the cold snow to realize this and look for it. Sorry! Anyways, I hope you had a great Valentine's Day and I will call you on Meggie's phone later.
Love,
Kate
